Fellow Feature: Egalhy Stewart

Published: September 11, 2020

The interview series will share more about our Notley Fellows, who are rising entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Austin community passionate about helping to solve pressing issues in the social impact sector.

This week we are featuring Egalhy Stewart, Sr Business Recruiter at Juniper Square and member of the Fellows 2020 class.

Tell us about your purpose or “why” behind choosing to get involved in the social impact space.

As an immigrant in the United States, I struggled to find my place and the resources to help me achieve my dreams. I was consistently turned down and navigated much of the education system on my own. After education came the next unknown—career paths. The hardships I faced kept me humble and I recognized early on that I was privileged to be able to carve my own path. Not everyone has the same opportunities I was given so I want to be able to empower people throughout their own education journey.

What has been the most beneficial part of the Fellowship experience for you?

I’ve enjoyed engaging with numerous people who are passionate about making a difference and are actively involved in our community.

What’s one thing that is giving you life right now?

My new home fitness routine! It’s been difficult to keep up with my mental health through COVID-19 but it’s a must-have in order to continue mentoring others.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I plan to continue advocating for students, especially those from minority backgrounds. Understanding your options and knowing which questions to ask can be overwhelming and I hope to change the experiences of young people everywhere by uncomplicating the information they need and making it as accessible as possible.
